Real Mom Solutions
Every mom hates to see diaper rash on her baby's bum. You wonder how to make it go away, and how to prevent it from coming back in the future. If you're looking for the best cure for your baby's diaper rash, check out these tips from our moms:
Try These Preferred Ointments
Triple Paste. I tried all the others (my son had a bad rash when he was just a wee thing) and NOTHING helped. Then my sister suggested Triple Paste and within a couple of days he was healing well!
The only thing that worked for us was Aquaphor and cornstarch baby powder. My baby has only had two diaper rashes, but when we're going to be in the car for a long time and before we put her to bed, we just use the baby powder and she stays dry.
I use California Baby. It's a little expensive. It goes a long way and works great--one application on a diaper rash and the next morning it's gone.
Try a Home Remedy
Try using damp wash cloths instead of wipes and leave the baby without a diaper for a little bit throughout the day on a waterproof surface.
I put coconut oil on everything.
Breastmilk. For everything. Rashes, cuts, scrapes, scratches, burns, sun burns, chemical burns (pool rash), hiccups, pink eye.... Clears it all up within two days max.
Give him an oatmeal bath. Just run a tub of warm water and put plain oatmeal in it. It's very soothing. They even make pastes and cream that use oatmeal in them.
We dont use any ointment. We use cornstarch.
Prevent Diaper Rash from Appearing
I change his diaper about every hour to hour and a half, whether he needs it or not.
I just use baby Vasiline. I use it a few times a day and she hasn't gotten diaper rash yet.
When All Else Fails...
Nothing worked for my baby. I started with Desitin and everyone was raving about Butt Paste. I tried it and it made it 100 times worse. I ended up taking her to the doctor and they prescribed Nystatin. I used it ONE time and the rash was almost completely cleared up. That stuff is the best!
