When will I feel the baby move?
Real Mom Problem
“I really think I felt the baby kick last night! I was lying on my back and I felt a kick at the front of my belly. I got really excited but a friend told me you usually don't feel the baby kick until 20 weeks. When did you feel kicks for the first time?”
- 1. First-time moms usually feel the baby kick beginning around 18 to 20 weeks
- 2. First kicks can be felt earlier or later -- each woman is different
- 3. Earlier movements that feel more like flutters than kicks are known as "quickening"
- 4. If this is not your first pregnancy, you are likely to feel the baby kick earlier

Moms Feel Kicks at Different Times
I felt him around 20 weeks and it's my first. I think it's different with each person. He kicks and moves when I'm laying on my back every time. I couldn't wait to feel him squirm around and now it feels like he's beating my insides.
I started feeling flutters around 15 weeks, but it was still a come-and-go feeling, depending on my daughter's position. By 20 weeks, it turned into strong kicks that I was feeling daily no matter what position she was in.
This is my first, and I felt him move at about 16-17 weeks!
Usually first-time moms don't feel the baby until 18-20 weeks. Experienced moms may feel it sooner. I usually could feel those first soft kicks laying on my back too.
This is my first and I felt him kick around 17 weeks. I used to feel flutters, but around that time I felt very soft kicks. Now he kicks me so hard it's painful. I'm almost 24 weeks.
Not Your First? Kicks May Come Sooner
I started feeling flutters around 13 weeks. This is my fourth baby.
I felt my first at about 19 weeks. My second about 14 weeks and my third was at 13 weeks, three days. Everyone is different and usually you will feel them sooner in later pregnancies.
With my first I could feel and see movement at week 19. I'm too early in this pregnancy to tell, but you're supposed to be able to feel baby kicking as early as 14 weeks in your 2nd/3rd/4th, etc. pregnancy.
This is my third. I'm about 12 weeks, and started feeling flutters this past week.
