How can I improve the quality of my cervical mucous?
Real Mom Problem
“I know that cervical mucus should get to egg white consistency but I don't seem to have much mucus at the time of ovulation. What can I do to improve my fertile mucus?”
- 1. When your cervical mucus is wet, slippery, or similar in consistency to egg whites, sperm has a better chance of traveling to your cervix
- 2. Evening primrose oil, Pre-seed lubricant, and guaifenesin have all been recommended by the moms of CafeMom for improving cervical mucus
- 3. Some medications, such as antihistamines, can dry your cervical mucus

Some Moms Suggest Evening Primrose Oil
Evening primrose oil increased the fertile cervical mucus for me. I had NONE and it gave me plenty. I hadn't had any since my son was born almost four years ago. Two and a half years of trying, and nothing. Four months of evening primrose oil and I got a positive pregnancy test! I took it orally. I took 1500mg (500mg pills, three times a day) from the first day of my period until ovulation.
I used evening primrose oil capsules (one a day) and noticed lots of egg white cervical mucus days after starting. Worked like a charm.
Others Had Success with Cough Medicine
Guaifenesin, which is found in both Robitussin and Mucinex, thins out the vaginal mucus to allow sperm to travel easier up to the cervix. It's found in larger amounts in Mucinex. I was taking Mucinex for a cold when I conceived my first child but I'm not sure if that really helped or if it was just a coincidence.
I just took Robitussin last month to make my cervical mucus thinner and friendlier for swimmers....and now I am four weeks, six days pregnant!
Lubricants Helped These Moms
They make this stuff called Pre-Seed. You can order it online. It's supposed to mimic fertile cervical mucus. We used it. I think it helped me conceive.
My daughter was a Pre-Seed baby. We were trying for about a year and then I heard about Pre-Seed. We used that for a couple months (along with 100mg of Clomid) and we were successful on the second month.
