If you walked away from a previous religion what was the greatest lesson that it taught you? Do you think that you wouldn't have learned this without that religion. (please post what religion it was)

As a former Christian (Lutheran, to be exact), I don't think I learned anything of value that I would not have learned had I been raised Atheist. I learned a lot of stories, though, and have read the Bible, so at least I'm literate with regard to references that are made to it. I suppose that counts for something. But then again, I plan to have my children read the Bible, too, and I'm not raising them in any religion. . . so maybe I haven't gained anything that I would have missed had I not been raised as a Christian.
