Can my Baby's eyes still change color? How long does it take to settle in?

When he was born they were so dark you couldn't see his pupils even in the light. Now they are dark brown and seem to be getting lighter. I researched some info online and they have info on each race not mixed race babies. Does that matter whether or not or when their eyes will change? Just curious because my family thinks his eyes will.

  • after 6months - 12 months the color usually stays the way it is...

but, believe it or not, my husbands eyecolor changed basically over night when he was 6years (!!!) old. I didnt believe it when he told me, but then his mom told me the same and she showed me pictures. I thought thats really strange.

  • at 6 months they are pretty much the color they are going to be. My baby is white (me) and Yapese (daddy), I know you're going whats that? It's a small island outside of guam. He is very dark, almost looks like black. She had really dark eyes when she was born too they blended in with her pupils, they are getting lighter now, but will ultimately stay brown because me and daddy both have brown eyes. I would say her eyes might get lighter but they'll most likely stay brown.

  • They say it can take up to a year. I'm hoping my 4 month old son's stay blue! He's 1/4 Japanese, so he has these beautiful asian eyes, but they're blue! I love it!

  • Typically you will know the eye color by one year, but eyes can change later in life too.

  • My eyes were blue until I was eight and then they turned green. My DD eyes were green then hazel and now brown all before she turned 2.

  • I had bright blue eyes until about 16 years old then they changed to green :) It will probably happen to my DD as well.

  • I had skyblue eyes until I was 2 years old and then they changed to Hazelgreen. My son, born with a light complexion as myself, was born with greyish blue eyes, they changed to a light brown just before his 10th month.

  • It should also be noted that those with Hazel eyes, their eye color can change daily because they either reflect on the colors the individual wears or it reflects how the individual is feeling. eg. Not feeling so well... the eyes are usually darker, after a good cry.. the eyes are lighter.

So if your child's eye do keep changing... more than likely they will be listed as Hazel.

  • My kids are also of mixed race and my son's eyes did not finish changing until he was about 18 months old. They were quite blue when he was born, were greenish by a year, and ended up being hazel around 18 months.
