mucinex while breastfeeding?

Does anyone know if it's okay to take mucinex 1200 mg while breast feeding? I've been miserable and my husband seems to think it is....but he's never asked the pharmacist so I am wondering if any of you know for a fact that its okay...either you asked the pharmacist or doctor.

  • my doctor told me no because anything that will dry up my 'mucus' would dry up my breast milk

  • Mucinex is fine. I've heard of decongestants such as pseudoephedrine having potential to dry up you milk, but not Mucinex, which is generally for cough. It's like Robitussin in a pill form.
