Do you think sibling names should somewhat "match"? Am I totally overthinking this!? Any suggestions for an Italian boy name?

We have Irish-Scotch friends with Bridget, Patrick, and Sean. We have Jewish friends with Caleb, Jacob, and Samuel. We also have friends with Jake, Mark, and Luke. I think these names "match" and my husband thinks I'm crazy, lol! He is Italian and I am Irish. I made a big deal out of having an Italian first name that matches our last name and also gave our son an Irish middle name. I would like to give all of our children "matching" names. We have a boy and are expecting another. I do not want to name him James, but that works great for a middle name, like Giovanni James, or something like that.

  • My son's name is Dante(after Dante Alighieri). I also like Rocco, GianCarlo, GianLuca and Gianni.
Some name in my family are PierLuigi, Paolo, Piero, Niccolo, Gino, Antonio and Francesco(LOL, I'm 100% Italian, can you tell?)
Anyway, I think you should name your kids whatever name you like. They don't have to match, although I think my kids names kinda match, Dante and Adriana and I think I like that it matches. But I wouldn't think it's weird if kids names don't match.
    Good luck!

  • I do not think they have to match, but mine do. My girls are AJ's, Alexis Jordyn and Allison Jade, My son is a Z, Zakary Daylon. We figured we are done now b/c we have "A" through "Z". LOL

As for an italian name Anthony works too. (but I do like Giovanni)

  • I know what you mean! It was important to me that my children's names "flowed" well together. For example, I know a family with one son named Elijah, and one named Dominic. Those names just don't seem to "match." I'm not saying that all the names in the family need to start with the same letter or anything, just sound like the same kind of name. I don't know, maybe we both have OCD. (By the way, my daughters names are Sami and Dani-- see the same "type of name!)

  • I insisted that all og my girls have Irish names...Mckenna, Delanie and Clover. I like the matching. Had we had a boy they would have had Irish names also ...Jameson or Braddick. I love the name Vedo or Vito (same name different spelling) for an Italian boy. Good luck with the name game!
