I'm 37 weeks pregnant and already dilated to 3 cm will my obgyn put me in at 4 cm or 5 cm

  • Not necessarily. No need to go in unless you're in labor.

  • Depending on how frequent you are having contractions and if the baby is face down and coming down.
    If you are only at a 3, but you are having frequent contractions you should go to the hospital, they may have to induce, unless you are moving along on your own.

  • u can be a 3cm and not go into labor for a month, or you could start labor in the next hour. Dilation means nothing until you are actually IN labor.

  • When you are in labor (that might be 1 cm or less, or at 8 or 9 cm) you can time your contractions and gauge the intensity, see how things go.
    Your cervical info won't tell you what to do-when.

  • What are you and/or OB hoping to gain by checking your cervix? It won't tell you *when* you'll go into labor or give birth.

    (BTW: Every time you're checked can lead to a greater risk of infection).
