ok, if the bible says to go into the world and preach the gospel, and "you shall recieve power after the Holy Spirit comes upon you andyou shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and in Judea and in Samarea and to the ends of the earth."
If we are not going out to reach those who do not know Christ as a personal saviour and if we are not inviting them to church to be discipled, and our churches are not growing, are we disobeying the word of God??

  • Yes I believe that. Witnessing is a mixture of intercessory prayer and going out and preaching the gospel to win souls If you do not we are disobeying God's Word.

  • Yes, churches should grow. However if it is miss spoken, alot of ppl will get the feeling you just want bigger numbers. And that isn't right for every church. Yes it should grow as to what degree, only God knows. If you are wondering this maybe God is putting on your heart you are needing to put more effort into asking ppl to your church or that maybe even your church isn't the right one for you. Even if you have been here for years and years, sometimes God will want you to change to get a dif point of view you aren't getting there. HTH

  • well i knwo the answers to that, i know that it isnt about numbers, but if there are no numbers then something is wrong too. we need to see numbers to know that we are doing what Gods plan is for all believers: to go and reach out to a hurting world for Jesus Christ. I know that we dont wnat numbers for saying, "i have this many people at my church how many do you have?" that is definatly a wrong attitude.

Answer by ministrymom at 3:14 PM on Jan. 7, 2009

  • But we need to know the numbers too because we need to knwo if we are being effective in our outreach and if we are winning the lost! God only knows how many people will come to your church, but we should see salvations on a regular basis i think, that is the great commission. And hey thousands were added to the church on the day of pentecost! I dont see anything wrong with a larg church as long as their focus is winning the lost and helping those in need, and reaching out to people. whenthey lose that focus then everything else will go down from there.

  • i love the good lord, but have lost faith in churches. they are full of hypocrocy and i know from first hand. my step dad was a preacher at a church and smoked crack and went out to eat with the money people donated. and i know hes not the only one.
in the bilble church means "fellowship of man". that means more than one person sitting around talking about god. its not a building that you have to go to and give away your hard earned money for the preacher to drive a caddy.
but i am all for spreading the word of god. with out him i would not have anything that i have today. and i thank him for it.

  • in some church yes there is hypocrocy, but that isnt all churches. it isnt about the money for all pastors, bc if it was, there are a lot of pastors that wouldnt be pastors. lol. my hubby is a pastor and it definatly isnt about the money. we do it bc we were called and know that God will provide our needs and that we need to spread the Good news in this way.

  • yes that is why out church sends out missionaries and that is why we are asked that every member be one as well. we try by showing others the blessings in our lives and by living righteously so they too will want to receive the same blessings from being righteous. our numbers are growing and have been for many many yrs we have over 13million members and one of the fastest growing country is mexico. in our ensign it showed a graph in one issue. it's great to see the growth of what i have always felt was a great church. our church is considering another split cause to many members at one time and would have to have another session of church and 5 new churches are being built around our area. within a 10 mile area.

  • i think you can tell a church by their fruit. and salvation is one of those fruits. if a church has no new faces, or no new salvations, it has become stagnate and comfortable. i think you need to keep moving up level by level in your faith (both in your personal faith, and your churchs faith). that way you arent comfortable with an attitude of "no outsiders allowed" because your forever changing spirtually. i do also believe there are different seasons a church can be in. if a church is going through a slump, it is a season of change, and the reason for the slump needs to be found, prayer for wisdom, and a change made. does that make sense? lol

  • Making sure people are truely seeking God instead of just praying a superstitious prayer, and leaving them to die by the wayside would be much better then numbers.
