How long does it take for your baby to "drop"?

I am just about 38 weeks and the doctor said that the baby hasn't dropped yet. I forgot to ask him how long does that take. Does it just happen all at once? Or does it gradually happen over a period of days, hours, what?? I sure can't tell if it has happened these last few days, but I will have an ultrasound in a couple of days to find out how big he is. So I do need this baby to drop and then to come on out! I can't wait to meet him!

  • Yeah, not all babies will drop. Some women never have their babies drop and they will just go into labor and deliver.
