when should i worry about at what ages he crawls and sits-up

My son is almost 8 months old, he was born very small, less than 5 lbs, but was considered a full term baby. He hates to be on his stomach for more than 5 mins, and hes not sitting up by himself. he will sit up when hes supported, but his head seems to throw him off balance. what can I do to help him do it on his own?

  • well the sitting up thing i would Think he should be doing this by now but he was born very small. my advice is this..all babies are different, they all develop different. your baby is just taking his sweet time learning! if youre really concerned though, call his dr.

  • Talk to the doctor. He should be sitting more *I* think. (not a medical professional!)

Try to make tummy time more fun for him. It's what helps develop his core muscles. What about his muscle tone in his legs...will he support himself standing? (with or with your help)

  • Not a professional opinion, but make sure he has tummy time. He prolly hasnt gotten his head fully under control. But if your really concerened see the Dr.

  • good news recently, hes not as apprehensive to be on his tummy, as long as some one is down on the floor with him, eye to eye. recently though to get off his tummy he has been rolling onto his back, which used to be something he only did on accident.

  • oh yeah, hes also does love to stand, sometimes he tries to stand when i am trying to sit him up. he stands and support his own weight when you are holding under his arms, and also walks around in the walker at grandma's house
