What's the best way to calm a newborn down while mom is at work?

My hubby will be staying with our newborn when it's born for a few weeks on and off while I will be working.

  • my son liked his swing, or his bouncer, he would fall asleep in them. Also he loved to be swaddled.

  • The best thing is to hold your baby against his skin and let the baby hear his heartbeat.
Also make sure you or your hubby snuggle with your baby and wrap the baby up like a burrito. The nurses will show you how after the baby's birth. Good luck!

  • If you are afraid that the baby will be missing you, You may wish to leave an item of clothing that you have worn for the baby to lay on while being held. The baby will have your scent and that can be calming. We have also used Chamomile and Lavender lotions to calm a fussy baby. That works great after a warm bath and massage. If the baby is really fussy ...placing the baby carrier on top of the dryer while it is running can vibrate and be relaxing. Just be sure to hold onto them for the entire 'ride' >LOL We placed a back massager under my sons bassinett to create that vibration. hey...it worked. LOL Tricks of the trade! LOL You will both find things that the baby likes and dislikes...it won't take long and the baby will have you both trained! LOL Good luck!
