  • You ovulate about 2 weeks before you bleed, so yes, you can get pregnant before you get your period, and you can get pregnant while breastfeeding.

As for the severity, it depends on the person. Mine were actually better than before I had been pregnant.

  • I didn't get a period while breastfeeding. I stopped breastfeedling at 11 months, exactly a month later I had the worst period of my life! It wasn't painful, it was just VERY heavy. (Sorry TMI) As for suggestions on getting pregnant, I can't give you any cause I"m having no luck myself. :( Good luck!

Hope the link helps - I've nursed all 5 of ours. My first I got my period at 8 months, got pg the next month. My 2nd I got my period at 7 months, got pg at 13 months, miscarried, got my period 3 months later, got pg the next month. With my 3rd got my period back at 6  months. Don't remember with my 4th. With my 5th I got my period back at 7 months. So far mine have not been horrible or painful, aside from the normal.

  • Yes you can get pregnant while breastfeeding. Especially if night feedings have dramatically slowed or have stopped or after solids are introduced and baby is eating less.

    My periods returned as follows

    1st baby-15 months
    2nd baby-15 months
    3rd baby-17 months
4th baby- hasn't yet returned and she is 13 months

I have noticed they tend to be a little heavier when they first return.

  • i didn't get my period back until my daughter was 15 months old and 2 months later i was pregnant again.
breastfeeding exclusively(no solids, no bottles, etc) can be a very effective form of birth control but it's not 100%.
