At 3mos old shouldn't my son be able to hold his head up?

He can keep it from falling back but not from falling forward.

  • mines almost 3 months and she can hold her head up. But as they say all baby's are individuals and they progress at their own pace, so i'd give it another month and then if he's still not there check with your doc.

  • All of mine could, but that doesn't mean that all babies will be able to.

Don't stress out, he'll get there!!

  • Thanks for the quick responses. I know I shouldn't compare my kids but my 1st son was able to hold his head up early. Then I come on here and all the moms in my group are saying how their baby can hold their head up & some are already rolling over. I wonder if I'm doing enough?

  • Humans are the only living beings who place their babies on their backs. LOL All of my children had ginormous heads and small necks. :) So they were pretty slow at holding their heads up well. Keeping my last two on their tummy's helped them to exercise and strengthen the neck. Plus, the prone position helps keep the spine straight and grow strong. :)

  • Yeah, I would suggest more tummy time. In fact, right now I'm laying on the floor with my daughter . . . it's her tummy time . . . she is on her tummy time surfboard. Its much more interesting when you are on the floor with them!!

  • I am sure its fine. Tummy time!!!! Its really the best way to help this. Almost all babies hate it, but its necessary.
