PBS has written a letter to Obama asking for a Bailout. Your thoughts?

CPB, NPR and PBS, in consultation with APTS, have asked President-elect Obama to include $550 million for noncommercial public-service media in his far larger package of spending and tax cuts to stimulate the economy and upgrade the nation’s infrastructure. The groups' joint letter (PDF), sent Jan. 2, suggests federal aid for six projects involving public radio and TV that will create jobs and “produce sustainable improvements to the nation’s communications infrastructure.”

  • I am sure he will give it to them, in return for favorable reporting on his administration. Nothing comes free.

  • I think the bailout line will continue to grow. We are a nation of too much stuff. Something needs to be done, but a bailout isn't the answer every fricken time.

  • they're asking to be including in order to help create jobs and stimulate the economy so why are you trying to turn it around and act like it's a bad thing? don't we want to stimulate the economy and create more jobs?

npr, pbs, ect are made possible because of their sponsors and from contributions from their viewers.
i don't know about you but i contribute yearly to etv and my local npr station because i enjoy using their services. this year, however, i was unable to do so because we just couldn't afford the extra cost.

  • So then heatherama, should it become the GBS (Governmental Broadcasting Station) and determine ALL the things you watch? What if lobbyists want more ballet and less Sesame Street. Your kid loses. Are you ok with that?
