Can a pregnancy test give false results after 10 min?

I checked the test after two minutes and it was negative. I checked it an hour later, well, I picked it up to throw it away and it said positive. Is this normal?

  • Yep. You have to read it in the time alloted and then toss it. What you see is an evaporation line.

Also... test in the AM with first morning urine. Pregnancy hormone is most concentrated. Testing at night is generally a waste of a test because the hormone will be too diluted to be read unless you're VERY pregnant...and if you are you won't need the test.

  • I tested first thing in the morning. I have other symptoms, but I have been on birth control AND condoms... so I dont know how it could be possible =/

  • All forms of birth control can fail. Even when stacked up. The ONLY certain way to avoid pregnancy is to not have sex or to have reproductive organs removed.

  • In addition to what gdiamante said, remember that pregnancy symptoms and PMS symptoms are remarkably alike...

  • Yes it can...it is called an evaporation line. That is why it says on the pregnancy test instructions not to read results after 10 minutes.
