He just turn 5 in Dec. Kindergarten orientation is coming up soon for the following year. Even though he will be on the older side I am still not sure if he is ready emotionally. He draws good, counts, but cries after me even if I am just outside. He also HATES to go anywhere even with me, if we go somewhere he is very lethargic and gets very sleepy. He will even fall asleep in the floor at dr. appts. if he get bored or still long enough. He gets plenty sleep at night. I took him to get his pictures made last week and he did not follow directions and pouted, we ended up rescheduling.Answer Question

Since you have until September for him to start Kindergarten I really think you should enroll him now in a Preschool. He will get used to the structure of it & prepare him for Kindergarten as well. It will help with the separation anxiety he has too. Which is totally normal. He will make friends & when he sees how children act his own age then he will probably stop acting sleepy. If it is a good Preschool then he will be more energetic & look forward to going. The small classes of most Preschools will benefit him with the Teachers being able to spend more time with him as opposed to a Kindergarten setting.
