Has anyone realized that now that Flexible Spending Accounts no longer cover OTC medicines that the Morning After Pill is no longer eligible. Another way the Govt is intervening in women's right to choose - and choose EARLY!!! What do you think?

  • They do cover OTC drugs as long as your dr writes a prescription for them. Kind of defeats the purpose, but you can get them covered.

I know with hubby's diabetes testing supplies we can buy them OTC or have his dr give a script for them. That way we get them cheaper and can send them in to our flex account.

You can thank Obama and the dems for this new law....it's part of Obamacare.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act signed by President Obama in March made a bunch of major changes to health care in America and one of them was to flexible spending accounts. Starting in 2011, over-the-counter products will not be eligible for flexible spending accounts. In fact, they will not be reimbursable under FSAs, health savings accounts (HSA), or health reimbursement arrangements (HRA) unless they are prescribed by a physician. There is only one exception and that’s for insulin.

  • I don't think the morning after pill has anything to do with what a flex spending account chooses to cover or not cover... The MAP is available with no prescription you just have to ask a pharmacist for it and sign for it JUST LIKE some cold medication.

Actually it IS the government. It's a new law that is part of "The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act"

  • I think if more women/girls CHOSE to close their legs we wouldn't have this epidemic. Girls these days give themselves away so freely...what ever happend to modesty and self control? I"m not talking about those that have been raped or drugged or extenuating circumstances such as that I'm talking about the straight up Hoes and sluts that parade around in next to nothing and "get drunk" and have sex with whomever is around. I believe in the womans right to chose whole heartedly but I also believe that the choice should start before the deed is done as well.

  • ^^That's a pretty big assumption, VanessaMom. When we young and newly married, we used condoms (I have a blood disorder and can't take hormones) because we were not ready to have children. I never took the morning after pill, but if at some point a condom had broken, I would have considered using it. I was married and faithful, and in no way a drunk hoe or slut. I was, however, someone who was not in a good position to be having babies. A woman doesn't have to be drunk or a slut to want to prevent pregnancy.

  • That sucks for those that depended on FSA to pay for something like that, but I found our FSA a huge pain in the ass. They make it more work to deal with than just paying the effing bill and paying tax.

  • Ours was set up on a debit card and because the company has to keep complete and full records, whenever there was a swipe they wanted every piece of documentation that came with it, which became a huge issue when dealing with paperless Dr. offices.

I've heard those can be a pain and that they will suspend the card until they receive the documentation. Our Dr. office usually just gives us the CC receipt from using my check card and they won't accept that so I ask for a print out. Now that they've gone paperless, they give you a print out with diagnosis and payment. They have accepted that :)

  • I agree with you JulieJacobKyle - I am a married woman who has had a slip up once or twice and I did use the Morning After Pill. @ VanessaMomof2 - I understand how you can be upset with todays culture - I too think they are a bit oversexualized - however - the question was about not allowing people (women) to pay for Emergency Pregnancy Protection with an account that they actually contribute their own pretax dollars to. This is a damn shame - an emergency should not require a prescription for a drug that has now become available Over-the Counter!!!
