  • Is there any way you can contact the AKC yourself? I would think you'd be ok if you didn't say the dog was definitely registered, just that you were told he was.

  • He's a fool for taking your word... it was hearsay at that point. If you were up front and told him that you hadn't seen the papers yet either he never should have taken your word on it. By the same token you never should have taken the other lady at her word either. He can take you to court but he will probably have to give you back the dog and you give him a refund at worst case scenario. Again... you are going to have to sue her for the papers or return the dog for a refund. Well... at least that's what happens on Judge Judy in these cases!! Good luck hun!!

  • Actually you can get in legal trouble. You sold a dog claimed it was AKC registered and if you can't provide the paperwork for it you'll be the one in trouble. The backyard breeder you got the dog from didn't sell him the dog, you did. You can probably in return take legal action against her for the paperwork but still. This is a great example of why people shouldn't be breeding their dogs only reputable breeders need to be breeding dogs.

  • If anything, SHE would be contacted by the attorney. Not you. You did all you could.
