  • Your cervix is about two inches thick, when it thins out, it is considered to be effacing.

When you are about to deliver (100% effaced) your cervix is as thin as a piece of paper. Normally as you dialate, you will efface.

Think about a thick piece of gum, when you start to pull it apart, it gets thinner. HTH

  • effacement is how much your cervix has thinned out.. 50% from its normal thickness, 75% etc.. Dakota explained it pretty well with the gum parallel. Many women efface before they dialate.. its normal for you to be 50-75% effaced and still not dilated.
