She knows dada, mama, baba, shoose (juice) lol, shoe, no and even shakes her head no she doesn't know yes yet. should she know more? what do YOUR kids know? (at that age please)

  • MIne knew about 4.
Remeber, kids vary. At her 18 month check-up, her doctor will want to see 10 to 20 words. Kids with fewer MAY have a problem. Many kids have far more. That check-up is 4 long months from now. I know it is hard to not compare and to not worry, but TRY. I was worried sick at 14 months but my daughter had well over 100 words at 18 months - talk about a language explosion!

  • Just before my daughter turned 2 she could only SAY momma, daddy, tickle, no, and kitty. Once she turned 2 I swear she spit a new word out each day. Now I can't get her to stop talking!

Seriously, your daughter is fine! She just turned 1!

  • I have the Your Baby Can Read DVD's and they are awesome for developing vocabulary! (if you are interested in increasing it) I wouldn't worry thought because everyone develops along their own pace. Anyway the doctor who created the dvd's said that most kids can understand words for about 6 months before they can say them because of the motor skills involved in speaking. I would be more concerned if she didn't respond to directions etc. Does that make sense? Anyway I highly recommend the dvd's my 20 month old speaks better than my friends 3 year old... although I am starting to suspect that he might not be talked too much at home...
