Do you think Mexico could Collapse? Do you think the Drug Lords are going to take control? Should the US get involved?

Mexico is one of two countries that "bear consideration for a rapid and sudden collapse," according to a report by the U.S. Joint Forces Command on worldwide security threats.

The command's "Joint Operating Environment (JOE 2008)" report, which contains projections of global threats and potential next wars, puts Pakistan on the same level as Mexico. "In terms of worse-case scenarios for the Joint Force and indeed the world, two large and important states bear consideration for a rapid and sudden collapse: Pakistan and Mexico....

....The report is one in a series focusing on Mexico's internal security problems, mostly stemming from drug violence and drug corruption. In recent weeks, the Department of Homeland Security and former U.S. drug czar Barry McCaffrey issued similar alerts about Mexico."

  • Wouldn't it be funnier to say "Do you think Mexico will explode like a piñata"?

And yes, I imagine that there is a very fragile peace and of course whatever happens will impact the US.

  • yea i could see them colapse... and we shouldnt help them... we got enough of our own problems.. dont we already help enough people? i mean i feel sorry for them and all but we are gonna drag ourselves down further policeing the whole world.

  • I am not sure how we help. IMO, drug lords are similar to terrorists and are willing to sacrifice innocent lives to save themselves. Plus, I don't think Mexico wants our help, do they. So, I guess it would have to depend on if they asked for our help and what we did specifically. But yes, I think Mexico's problems indirectly effect the United States. And the indirect costs continue to rise at a time when we can barely take care of our own. Sometimes I feel like the United States is a bubble about to pop..
