Why is it that in this country...

Where abrahamic religions have the most say currently in our laws and legislation does the catholic church cry for more and more things to go their way? Or do they get upset when they loose some of that control?

NOTE BEFORE ANY ONE GETS THEIR PANTIES IN A WAD!!! This is not an attack on catholics but a serious question I have been thinking about and trying to figure out. Most of our current laws are formed around abrhamic religions however that does not seem to be enough. Funny thing is those laws being centered around those religions is unconstitutional to begin with. Then on top of that when changes are attempted to be made to correct this injustice they are the biggest ones up in arms screaming about how unfair it is. I just don't get it.

  • I think what we're seeing is the upset of losing the control that was once previously held and no longer being held up in an "Entitled" status.

  • So in this country (ideally ) majority rules.

No, in this country the majority does not rule. That's why we are a republic instead of a democracy. Our system is specifically designed with checks and balances to prevent the majority from destroying the lives of those who disagree with them, simply because there are fewer. Those are also the reasons for the bill of rights.

  • our Respresentatives speak for us. They are supposed to do what they feel the people want.

And by design, they are not given sole authority. The Executive and Judiciary are there to keep them from riding roughshod over the minorities.

  • Is it really only the CC, or is it that the CC is the the most unified and centrally governed of the Christian denominations, so they are heard most loudly and clearly? I think there are many Christians (particularly) who become upset when laws change to reflect a more fair society. Things like abortion, gay-marriage, etc go against Christian values, it's difficult for Christians to understand that not everyone follows their beliefs.

  • "Other churches have the same resources and ability to make as much noise as the CC. "

Not as centrally governed as the CC. Besides, Mormons don't have to make a fuss, they're too busy using their resources sending young men door to door, trying to force everyone to convert to their beliefs. Isn't that pretty much the same thing, they're just using a different means to achieve the same end.

  • "anime Though that is true they still don't publicly cry persecution because things are changing. They aren't trying to force us to keep things in our they are more a pest than any thing. Yet they have the same resources to do so and don't"

You know, I'm just going to stop now because otherwise I'll just get into yet another pissing match on here, and I'm in no mood for it. I'm not defending the CC, but I really don't think other denominations have the resources the CC does. I also think the other denominations depend on the CC to do the whining for them, that way they have all their work done at someone else's expense. And I still see no difference from going door to door and telling people they're doing it wrong, and going to the gov't and telling them they're doing it wrong. It's still is the same means to an end.

  • The constitution was based on the articles of confederation which were based on the Iroquois Confederacy (nearly word for word). I will have to search to find the link to that document so you can see for yourself.

Funny how people don't believe history unless it supports their version of it... sigh.

PS there are more religions than Catholic Christians and Atheists (non-religion). If the majority of people are Christians and the majority of people (haven't fact checked, please dear God pun intended please tell me the majority of people have sense) accept that evolution is true (note I did not say believe for a reason - it's not a belief system), then some Christians must accept evolution. Not all Christians interpret the Bible the same way or there wouldn't be soooo many different versions of Christianity.
