When do they start making tears?

My baby girl is a little over 2 wks old, and I've noticed that she doesn't have tears when she cries. Also, every once in a while, a little piece of lint or something will get in her eye and it doesn't bother her, but no tears wash it out. Is this normal? Or what?

  • It's because the tear ducts haven't fully developed. give it a few more months and "here come the waterworks"! Get ready for the drama, drama,!

  • My daughter's eyes get wet when she cries really hard, but the tears don't roll down her cheeks like they do with older kids and adults. I'm not exactly sure when they start crying actual tears like that : /

  • I wondered the same thing, my daughter would get eye boogies and they would just stay in there until i wiped them out, shes 3 1/2 months old now and she has cried 2 times where her little eyes got watery. They werent rolling down her face I dont think that happens unless they get real upset which I try to never let happen haha! So I would say around 3 months.
