Catholic beliefs....

My family and I are Catholic. My kids are getting close to teen years and gets me to thinking. I know Catholics aren't supposed to use any kind of birth control. But I am back and forth with this for my kids. I hope and pray they wait until they are married. But from experience we now that doesn't happen very often. Should I tell them to use it if they need it. I don't want them to have a child as a teenager. Don't get me wrong it won't ruin their lives just makes it difficult. I know from experience. Any suggestions....

  • Or sponges with spermicide...
What you can't use are things like the pill. Sometimes an egg could be fertilized, but the pill makes the body abort it. This is concidered abortion in the eyes of the church.

  • I thought only natural family planning was allowed. Tell them that having sex without birth control is the same thing as praying for a baby and give them a look. They will get the hint.

  • Candi you aren't Catholic or don't know your own religion. Yes, the Catholic church has a big problem with abortifacients. But they also have a problem with condoms, sponges, diaphragms, etc You should look it up.

  • I am Catholic and had my dd on birth control. I dont think God wants us to ignore modern medicine. If man created it I believe in most cases it came from Divine inspiration. I also believe we cant put God in a box and say this is the only way God thinks. How do we know that? We dont. I think using your brain and common sense is pleasing to God.

  • Yeah, that's true. I guess it's just a way to cross the line without crossing it totally.
I mean, if they are having sex they are crossing that line already.

  • I was raised Catholic, and feel that it can be very difficult to stay. I have many of the same beliefs that the church has, but am against just as many. Does that make me a bad catholic, probably, but I am still a good person. I have used bc for years and my dd has also. I guess I'm going to hell.

  • Your children are more important than religion. Talk to them about their bodies, and how best to protect them

  • I am Catholic, believe in birth control of any kind. I believe that if God didn't want birth control it would not have been developed. I have been on birth control and and off for 22 years.

Protect your child. The Catholic church doesn't run your life or mine. Just because your RELIGION says something doesn't mean it's law. Doing what it best and healthiest for your kids and family is the most important thing.
