I GAINED?!?! HOW THE H*** DID I GAIN?!!?

Went on my diet on Monday. Stupid POS scale says I GAINED 6 oz. How the heck? I cut down my food intake dramatically. I stopped snacking completely. I've been drinking water only. My meals have been smaller. WTF?!?!?! This isn't possible!! I quit!!!

I just ate 3 huge chocolate chip cookies. Take that, b*tch!!

Seriously, I am so disappointed. I've never started a diet and not had results before. I know its only been a few days, but to GAIN is not how I wanted to start this out. I'm so disappointed and discouraged. Don't know what to do now....

  • This has happened to me before, I know how you feel.

Any chance it's right before your period?

Otherwise, I wouldn't give up, I'd keep going, make sure you're eating enough of the right foods.

  • Did you weigh yourself at the same time of day that you did on Monday? Your weight fluctuates throughout the day. Also, if you have been exercising, you may have gained some muscle, so that weight is a good thing. Don't give up just yet.

  • Your weight can fluctuate up to 3 pounds each day. I only weigh once a month, the day I finish my period.

  • I'm not sure if I'm getting my period, I haven't had a regular period cycle in over 2 years due to 2 pregnancies and breastfeeding. I got pregnant with my son, had no period during pregnancy, then had no perod for the first 6 months I breastfed, then had ONE period, then got pregnant with my daughter and have been breastfeeding her for 5 months. I had a short, half-period last month, so I think I could be getting one. I weighed in at the same time wearing the same clothes I wore on Monday, but I haven't been excercising. I haven't had the time this week with my son's toddler tantrums I've had to deal with. I was literally in tears on the scale, so I could be getting a period, lol. Crazy hormone crap :P I really regret eating the cookies now...

  • I wouldn't get so discouraged after only a few days and over just 6 oz. You could lose that 6 oz. after a bowel movement, LoL :)
Always try to weigh yourself at the same time of the day...I've read that the morning is the best, after you go to the bathroom and you're not wearing as many clothes.
Also, remember that a little activity every day will help, too. Eat healthy, watch your calories, and exercise, that is the one and only true weight loss 'secret' :) Good luck to you!

  • I would only weight yourself once a week. Each day our weight can flucuate after we eat or drink something. Exercise, eat healthy and continue to drink water. The weight will come off.

  • 6 oz. is nothing really. If you are close to your period, it could just be build up of water weight. Stop weighing yourself every week and go to every other week and see if you have better results.

  • I agree, it could just be water weight. Make sure you weigh first thing in the morning and naked (or close to it), and after you use the toilet. I know I can vary in weight up to 6lbs or more throughout the day (clothes, water and food in my system, full bladder, etc), but every morning it returns to "usual".
Make sure you drink PLENTY of water. Water actually helps flush out water retention (believe it or not) - so drink up!

Don't feel discouraged, just stick to it! Long-term results happen more slowly than quick fixes anyway
