Early Childhood Education Associated Degree

What is the best online school to go to for Early Childhood Education Associated Degree? I am unable to go to the college in my city so everything has to be done online. I have also checked the local college and they don't offer anything online. I won't be transferring either. I will do everything with that college online.

Is this online college credible? http://www.pennfostercollege.edu/index.html

This is the degree I am looking into. http://www.pennfostercollege.edu/earlychilded/index.html

Thank you

  • What are your goals? Are you wanting to teach at a daycare or preschool? Or are you wanting to be a K-3rd grade teacher?

  • What are the requirements for your headstart? I know that in my area because of teacher layoffs, the headstart programs are hiring the teachers who have a Bachelors degree. I would not recommend Penn Foster. They are a for profit school and have a bad reputation as far as academics go. I know of a few colleges that offer an associates in ECE but I am on mobile right now. I will post them as soon as I get to my computer.

  • There are no requirements for our Head Start at this time.  They have been trying to get me to apply for a couple years now since I have volunteered there for several years now, but I would rather have some time of education in Early Childhood before I make a commitment.  Thanks, looking forward to seeing the info you have. Thank you.

  • What state do you live in? This will help me with suggestions on colleges.

  • To be honest with you, I have an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. I have worked as a Pre-K teacher and my degree really didn't help me in that job at all. 42 hours of my degree where general education courses, with the remaining 18 hours being my education classes. I learned more from my yearly training classes that actually pertained to my job. If you have no plans on working as an elementary school, then have you considered either getting a CDA or CCP? Here is a description of what they are- http://www.carecourses.com/cda_vs_ccp.htm.

  • You can also take individual classes that pertain to the HeadStart age- http://www.carecourses.com/Care_Courses_Catalog.htm. Depending on your state, you will be required to take anywhere from 10-25 hours of classes each year.

  • You can't learn to teach online!

Stay away from for-profit schools. They exist, by law, to make money for their owners/shareholders; education is not their priority. When I was in HR, I did not interview candidates from the for-profit schools.

Start with a community college; they will likely have many classes on line and the credits will easily transfer to a state university.

Have a couple of informational interviews with people in your chosen field to help you determine whether or not this is the right career choice for you. Check to see if there are open jobs in this field, too
