1 Bump

A feral cat had kittens in my house 7 months ago. I have not let her out since then, but I cannot catch her. She is housebroken and otherwise content, but seems to be constantly in heat. What can I do? FYI, I gave all her kittens away except one and have 2 other cats.

  • she is going to have to get fixed... that will calm her down and she will not go into heat again...
check with your local vet for prices... a female cat cost a bit more than males... some animal shelters
will do it for a cheaper cost if your income is low... you can check with them also...

  • What are you doing to catch her? You may be using a method that isn't really suitable. And YES I do know how hard it can be to get a cat to the vet's. :)

In any case, I'm not going to give you any information that you don't already have - she needs to be spayed. How about contacting your local vet to see if they can give you any good suggestions on how to get her to their clinic?

PS - thank you for caring for our feline company ...

  • You need to find a way to catch her and take her to the vet. She needs to be fixed and you should bring her shots up to date.
Call your local animal control officer or humane society... they might be able to help you trap her.

  • buy a cat catching cage,, perhaps the vet would even loan you one, you just put food in there, lock up your other kitties and take her to the vet/.

  • She needs to be spayed, definately.
I'd say get a catching cage as well. And the humane society near you should be able to give you a place that will do low cost spaying for you.
Good luck! Good for you for helping her out and taking care of her and her kittens. Many people would have thrown her out again.

  • I'd ask the vet for a mild sedative that you can add to her food ~ and lock the rest of the cats in a room until she ate. It likely won't put her completely to sleep, but it should be enough to slow her down and/or make her drowsy. Have a cat carrier ready and make arrangements to take her in as soon as you catch her. If you feed/catch her late in the evening, you could just leave her in the carrier (put a small litter pan in with her) overnight and drop her off for the spay first thing the next morning. Hopefully the vet staff will be careful when they get her out of the carrier ... you might want to mention it to whoever takes her back to surgery! This is what I do when I take ferals in.
