I need help chosing a kindergarten.

Does anyone have any advice as to what questions to ask when interviewing kindergartens for the first time? Our school district is very large and to some degree we get to chose which public school to send our daughter to. Any advice would be much appreciacted.

  • Wow, you get a choice?! Have not heard of that. I would ask them to tell you about their curriculum. Do they teach phonics or use just sight words or a combination of the two to teach reading? Have the teacher give you a discription of the daily schedule from beginning to end. Is there a rest time? Do they have enough recess time built into the schedule. Believe it or not, some schools have done away with recess! Does the teacher have an aide in the classroom to help her? Are they a full day program or just a half day? Try to find a classroom that seem evenly balanced with work and some play and rest. Our kindergartens have gotten so difficult that they are not developmentally appropriate. The kids are stressed because the curriculum is now what I learned in First Grade! We are pushing our kids to fast!
