Should parent be allowed to own Large Poisnous snakes if they have small children?

If they have the snakes in a safe and secure spot? I personally think there is no real safe and insecure spot. YOUR THOUGHTS?

  • I think that any responsible parent can have any pet that they want.

This is no different than owning a gun or even a dog as dogs have as much ability to turn on an owner as a snake does at getting loose.

  • Honestly, the first thing I thought of was that Simpsons episode where that giant snake swallowed a few kids at the school - Funny on TV but in real life, ummm... no. Yeah, just "no".

Sorry to ask another question but would it make any difference if you could get the poison glands and teeth removed? Could you even do that? I don't know that much about gialnt poisonous snakes.

  • it doesn't matter if they are poisonous or not, and usually the ones you hear about that smothered a toddler to death on the news were not poisonous.

i don't agree with it, but that's why i don't have a large snake in my house. other people can do what they wish, i just hope they're not being idiots about it.

  • ANY pet can be dangerous - even a house cat or gold fish... How is a snake any different? Personally the ONLY limits I set on what "pets" someone should or shouldn't be allowed to have is on those who keep very large or endangered animals - Tigers, Gators, etc. - Things that can't be controlled with simple cages or harnesses...

  • It's such a slippery slope when we start making laws about what parents can do or have around their children. Personally, I wish people were responsible enough to know they *shouldn't* have large snakes around children without needing a law to tell them they can't.

  • I completely agree with tnm786. But, I'll go a step further & say those people are idiots for having a snake that could potentially kill their child in their home.

  • No one should be allowed to have any snakes in my opinion. They should all be killed.
