What scissors do you recommend?

I need some scissors that ate great with fabric, comfortable and hold an edge long. Any suggestions? I'm so tired of crappy scissors!

  • I have a brand new pair of Fiskars and they are not cutting well and causing painful spots on my hand. I opened then today!

  • I used to work for a woman who makes Jewish prayer shawls called Talit. The sewers in the back used for large cut a roller type of scissor, like a pizza cutter. They would only use scissors for small cutting jobs. Check out fabric stores and ask them what they recommend.

  • I use a rotary cutter for most of my fabric needs. For things like cutting out small pieces and appliqué I use a cheap pair of scissors that I got for $2 at Hobby Lobby. I also have my grandmother's shears.

Take back the scissors and explain what is happening. See if they will let you exchange them for something else. I love my Martelli ergo cutting blade, but they are hard to find outside of a sewing expo. Try a Fiskar Ergo rotary cutter because the things are rolling razor blades. If you drop it, it can cut really badly. And if it is scissors you want, see if they will let you "test drive" some of the nicer ones.

  • In love with my Silver Fiskars.

I always try to get these with a coupon in Joanne's.

  • I teach sewing lessons, and the ones I recommend are gingher. They are my very favorite, had mine for 15+ years and have never even needed to sharpen them. I don't ever use them for anything except fabric.
