  • Lots of questions. Some Jobcorps have facilities for you to take your child. All your basic needs will be supplied for, food, toiletries. You can get your driver's license there, you earn a small stipend for spending, there are very tight regulations. And yes, it would be safe for your child. Talk with the counselor about the IEP, it shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck to you and congratulations for taking this first step.

  • I can only answer a few of these, so hopefully you will be able to find more information on what you are looking for here.

I haven't heard of anything outside of high school work with IEPs, but there are locations of Job Corps that do accept single parents. It sounds like they offer a private room and bathroom for each family, and then you would share common areas. It appears that the utilities and housing is covered, but I have yet to see anything that would indicate other items are included. I see that they do provide a living allowance that is taxed, so you could use that to purchase what you need. In most locations it looks like meals are provided as well. I would assume that where single parents are accepted, the children would be fed, too.

Here is a link to more info from the Flint/Genesee Job Corp location that might give you some more information:

  • It looks like the monthly allowance they give you is about $100, but they provide for food, shelter, medical care, etc.
