How can i get my son eatin back on track

Ok so my son will be 2 in july.. But before he turned 1 he used to eat evrything. After he turned 1 its like he jus took his self off of foods period. The only thing he really eats is ramen noodles, cream of wheat and oatmeal. What should i do? i know he's not gettin all the nutrition needed as a child off them foods alone. Its not healthy to me.. He actually runs frm food if we try to get him to eat it.. This is weird to me, i never seen it before... He tries to eat other stuff but will only eat like a bite or two and then wont eat no more.. Can someone help me out? Thanks ladies in advance

  • Oatmeal is very healthy.. good job. With my niece we had that small issue I suggested small frozen smoothies... Mix with a lot of fruit and some with veggies and as long as it was a frozen treat she loved it and for meat we put peanut butter on everything. She loved it.. on apples, on French toast with (lite) syrup. She loved it

  • He is really young and what he eats and how much is one of the few things that he can control. Don't worry if he isn't eating much more than a few bites of things at mealtime, because he really doesn't need a lot - a few tablespoons can really fill up a small tummy. Limit snacks to healthy things and not huge quantities and make sure that he isn't filling up on milk or juice (which should really just be a treat IMO.)

My doc once told me that my job was to make sure that my kids had a nutritious meal offered 3x day. Their job was to decided what to eat and how much. And in the toddler years the amounts are going to vary a lot from meal to meal and day to day.

  • christinkie had my idea. Mix fruits into the oatmeal and/or the cream of wheat. And balagan_imma had my other idea: it's our job as parents to OFFER the food, it's their job to EAT it.

It takes a minimum of 10 introductions of the same food, the same way, before a young child will decide if they like it or not. Keep going Momma, you're on the right track.

  • I have always told my kids that they have to take a tasting bite, a tablespoon full of any new food. And they have to try it at 3 different times, not at the same meal, at 3 separate meals. Usually by the 3rd meal they like it.

  • Mix fruit in the oatmeal and cream of wheat. Your son's tastes are just changing. He is getting used to new tastes and textures. It can take a while. Also, a serving size for him is a couple of tablespoons. Keep offering new foods, he will learn to like new foods.

  • Sounds good for breakfast. Try cutting up slices of fruit and some bread with peanut butter and jelly for lunch and cook some dinner as you would for you and whoever else in the home and place a small sample of everything on his plate to see what he likes the best.
