If you dont like your pediatrician

Would you continue to change peidatricians till you found one you liked? We switched last time the girls needed shots cause we have new insurance through work and our old pediatrician doesnt take it.
I was just no happy with her. She seemed rush rush, and the clinic staff isnt very friendly. So it is time for shots again and i dont think i want to go back to them.
Would you try them until you found one you like?

  • I have. We went through 6 different doctors in 2 years until we found one we liked. His staff is still a bit on the "Holier than thou" side, be HE is wonderful. He takes his time, addresses all concerns and questions we have, and spends an extra minute or two joking with the kids to make them feel comfortable. it was worth the trouble of switching every couple months to find a good one.

  • Yes, I would switch as much as I needed to find a doctor I liked(I do the same thing with myself). I finally found a doctor I liked for myself and he is a family doctor so I switched my son to him. We had a family doctor when my son was born who moved to another city when my son was 2 so we went to the ped office in the same clinic but I wasn't happy. I prefer family doctors because then they know the whole family and history and can connect some dots that we may not see ourselves.

  • yeah I would... I was lucky with my son's doctors. When he was a baby he had a great pediatrician then we moved and had to find one here in town. My son got sick with a seizure and the pediatrician that took care of him was awesome!! So I asked if he was taking new patients and he was. He has been with him ever since. Not to mention he is a lil easy on the eyes!! ;0) LOL

  • I would absolutely keep switching until I found one I liked. If you aren't comfortable with the doctor, your child will eventually pick up on it and be uncomfortable as well.

  • First of all, when i was pregnant I interviewed about 5 pediatricians that took our insurance. We decided on one who ran her practice out of her house. We eventually changed to a larger practice with 5 doctors, 2 nurse practioners and many nurses. Our old pediatrician had lousy hours and I lost a full day of work when my daughter had pink eye and I knew I just needed a prescription. When we finally got in my day was shot. She also kept complaining about insurance companies and their practices. I didn't want to hear it and told her she didn't have to accept them. Our new pediatricians are great and we have been with them for the past 13 years.

You can interview pediatricians without a copay. Make an appointment and sit down and talk with several, then decide. You don't want to be changing all the time. You kids will need consistent coverage when they start school because you have to submit their vaccinations forms.

  • I would, we lucked out and was happy with our first choice, but I wouldnt continue going to a Dr I wasnt happy with, I would do some research first though or see if you can get a reccomendation from a friend or someone that has a pedi they are really happy with, for me its more about them being a good Dr than getting along with them as a person though.

  • I would. I went to the practice my DD goes to now when I was a kid. It was a much smaller practice then. I also worked there for 2 1/2 years several years ago. There are 13 doctors and 2 nurse practitioners and 2 offices. They also have late nights and on call dr and work weekends just to see sick kids. I am going to have a hard time finding a ped that I like when we move out of state, just because I am so comfortable where we are.
