Has anyone attempted a juice fast?

I just watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. On this documentary, the man uses a juicer and makes a juice out of nothing but fresh fruits and vegetables and he lost tons of weight. I have bought tons of fresh fruit and vegetables and we are going to start tomorrow. I can't live completely on liquid though and will be cooking dinners for us to eat. Still very healthy, all vegetables and beans, nuts, without meat. I'm curious if anyone has tried it. I'm afraid to drink the kale one, it looks nasty! lol I'm excited to do this though, because I want to lose 7lbs and my husband needs to lose like 50lbs and it's so healthy as food is most nutritious raw.

  • Yes I have,it's hard the first week, but after that you start feeling better. I tried this when I was 14 and my painful periods went away and I wasn't fainting anymore. It does cost quite a bit to do that. One thing I remember when we stopped juicing is we started eating nuts and berries, and wheat, and rejuvalac and I never felt so wonderful. I wasn't tired in the morning,I could get up at 5-6 ish and feel 100% rested.

  • We got a Jack Lalanne, but we really want a Breville. We are going to use the Jack Lalanne for a while and if we like it, we'll keep it since it's cheaper. However, we have seen some bad reviews for Lalanne's, so we'll see. Go to youtube.com and there's a guy that lists a bunch of juicers and which ones are most cost effective for their quality.

  • My two biggest issues with juicing: you are missing out on tons of nutrition in the pulp (a powerful blender, like a vitamix, is a better choice than a juicer); your body will be flooded with toxins, and you may experience flu-like symptoms. Be sure to load up on anti-oxidants to help counteract this: take grapeseed extract, drink green tea, eat blueberries, etc.; and drink lots of water to help flush the toxins (water is your best health and weightloss tool)

congratulations on your commitment to better health for your family!! I have a ton of recipes that are tasty, healthy, simple, family and budget friendly; send me a message offlist if you would like some.

  • My mother does it occasionally and yes, she looses weight. However, once she goes back tobeating normally, the pounds come back, usually with reinforcements.
Juice fasts are good for desintoxicating, but definitely not the choice to loose weight. The only way to loose weight and keep it off is changing your habits. That's why diets and extreme measures don't work. Because when you go back to eating normally, you're going back to the habits that made you gain the weight to begin with.
Personally, I lost weight with Weight Watchers and because I learned how to eat balanced and healthy and was encouraged to start exercising, I didn't regain the weight. IMHO that's the effective and permanent way up do it- low and slow, without submitting your body to deprivation.

  • I did a liquid fast for a week a couple times and felt wonderful after. We no longer juice, but I do make smoothies for a snack at night with various furits and veggies. If you do decide to do a true fast with no solids then you really need to make sure you are not going anywhere there is not a quick accessible bathroom for the first 3-4 days. If you are doing it to lose weight I don't recommend it. You will lose the weight, but when you start eating again you will gain some back. I did it as a cleanse and really need to again.

  • I know someone who is doing this diet. They juice during the day and have a light/real dinner. They were down like 10pounds or so in a week. I dont think I could handle long term doing this. Plus fruits and veggies are expensive. Just buying the fam regular veggies is expensive enough. Good luck though.
