I am guessing they allow 15 minutes for the appointments

I called to make my 18 month old daughters well child visit with a new pediatrician and they gave me the times available as 1:50 and 2:05. There were others but these were in my time frame. So i am guessing that there appointments are @15 minutes. I mean that goes by pretty quick when trying to discuss soemthings. Does that sound about normal?

  • Maybe they're figuring you'll end up waiting until 2:30 for the doctor to see her anyway.

  • The average is 15 min., but if you need more time to ask questions that is your time to do it. Don't worry about the 15 min. You have the doctor's attention so you should use it wisely. Sick kids are usually in and out and some well baby visits are in and out. That allows the extra time that some people may need.

  • I agree that it is just the average, and that if you have more to discuss, not to worry about it. I know for my daughter's last appointment, I was taking her in for an ear infection, fever, and vomiting. We were in, he checked her ears, asked me how long she had her symptoms, if she was keeping things down now, and sent us on our way with a prescription. I doubt it took us longer than 5 minutes, but if there was something going on with a child that took longer than that 15 minute time, well, my extra time would have made a buffer.

  • Yes, it does sound normal. Write your questions down before you go so you are prepared. Once the baby gets her vaccination there is no sticking around. How much conversation do you need?

  • You can take more time. Most doctors dont rush you. And you can ask as many questions as you can, that's what they are there for.

  • i was reading the march issue of readers digest today, and there is an article titled something like "10 things your pediatrician will not tell you" - one of those things was, in a nutshell, doctors only have 10 minutes max per appointment, so if you have a lot of questions, etc, ask for an extra long appointment to ensure you have enough time.

  • I was told by my pediatricians staff that most appts are 15 min, and if I feel I want more time to schedule a "consultation check up" and it would allow my appt to be 30 min. Hope that helps!

  • Oh, and even when I scheduled a long appt, it never even took 20 min. Just go in prepared and it goes by really fast.
