1 Bump

Sick, feverish two year old.... so worried :(

My two year old son started having bad diarrhea about two days ago. Its so bad that it has given him terrible diaper rash. So that it hurts for me to wipe him or for him to sit down. I'm using desitin so hopefully thatll help clear it up but anyway, last night he started running a fever (I'm not sure how high it is or how it got because my thermometer batteries are apparently dead) but I can feel how hot he is by the heat radiating off of his little body. He is miserable and I can tell. But when I try to give him tylenol he pitches a fit (terrible twos + being sick= awful combination) and he won't swallow it at all. He got so wound up earlier when I tried to give it to him that he threw up. And I've tried giving him a luke warm bath to try to bring down his fever but his bottom is so sore that he doesn't wanna sit in the tub. I don't know what to do. I'm so worried and I don't know what to do to break his fever. I just want my little man to get feeling better. Does anyone know anything that I can do to bring down his fever? Please help! Thanks.

  • Stop forcing him to do things right now. If he wont take his medicine to make him feel better. Then stop trying. Best thing to do is get him to drink liquids and eat.

  • I found Desitin never worked for my kids. There is something called Triple Cream that is great for diaper rash. Try Advil instead of Tylenol. It works better. Get him to drink, a lot. Gatorade, make apple juice ice pops, Jello anything to get fluids in him. Diarrhea will cause dehydration and you don't want that. Call the doctor and make an appointment. You don't know if it is viral or bacterial. Make him chicken soup or get wonton soup at the chinese take-out.

  • My son used to not take medicine. I would put it in the dropper and drop it in his mouth while he was sleeping!! He would just swallow it and not notice, but he was an unusually deep sleeper. I liked balmex for the rash. Also, get Aveeno oatmeal to put in the tub. It helps. Good luck!!

  • If he will not bath try sponging him from time to time to try and help bring down the fever. If he will not take the medicine try placing the tylenol in his cup. He may just think its some juice and drink it down. Pedialyte is good if you think dehydration may be a problem. Avoid drinks that contain lots of sugar as this could make the diarrhea worse. I hope your little one feels better soon. Of course if things get worse it is best to call his doctor.
