Here's the short version of my story:
I'm 20 (21 in April) and in July a friend and I were cutting through a park in our neighborhood because it was quicker to go that way to get from my house to his. The park is literally one street from my house and one street from his on the other side. It was probably 10ish and the park closes at dark but we didn't think much of it because we've been cutting through this park for the past 7 years...sometimes at night and never had a problem.
So we get halfway through and a light shines in our face and it's a police officer and he tells us to stay where we are and that he can smell the alcohol from where he is! Not true. So he continues to say that he will charge us with 'criminal trespass' and that he will recommend us for diversion and sends us on our way. We walk back to my house and a week later we get served.
At court they grant us diversion:
6 months of staying out of trouble, staying out of that park, community service (10hrs), and RANDOM ALCOHOL SCREENINGS. He didn't even breathalyze us. He has nothing as evidence to say we were actually drinking.
So my review comes up in 2 weeks and my PO called me on tuesday and said "Are you aware I've been trying to contact you? I've called you several times for an alcohol screening" Well my phone must be messed up because I received ONE call on my home phone which I returned and another officer answered and didn't not identify herself so I thought I was speaking to my PO but turns out I was speaking to someone else that was unaware of my needing to have a drug test. So I tell her I'll be right there and 10 minutes after receiving her call I am there and ready to pee in a cup like a low-life criminal.
I have no record. Not even a speeding ticket. I'm in school at the biggest university we have. I work full time at a daycare. I have a daughter that is very well taken care of so I'm pretty upset about all of this.
Well, I was doing some research online and found that the EtG test is VERY sensitive and that people are getting false positives for cosmetics, hygiene products, household cleaning supplies, certain foods (salsas, berries, etc) and even diabetics because of the sugars in their urine!
I get my results back next week and I'm panicking because I looked at some labels and my deodorant, perfume, soap and the sanitizing spray I use at work all contain different types and levels of alcohol. I'm so worried I'm going to get a false positive.
Their rules were as follows:
"If your case is Alcohol related:
1. Do not drink liquor, wine, or beer.
2. Do not eat foods with alcohol cooked in them.
3. Avoid certain hygiene products. (They told me mouthwash specifically)
4. Do not use OTC cold medicines"
I followed all those rules but I'm still worried. I wasn't aware that my deodorant and perfume had alcohol in them...I hadn't even thought about it as I was unaware how sensitive these tests are. I can't help what I use at work...it's state law that I wash my hands with the soap provided at the proper times (I wash them a good 30+ times a day) and sanitize things probably 20+ times a day.
Anyone have experience with these tests? I should be okay, right? I know that they have to allow for "incidental exposure" but I don't know the cutoff and am afraid I'll exceed that given the frequency I come into contact with those products.
