I know this is wrong but...

I brought sushi home tonight and my 5 year old son wanted to try some. He was immediately drawn to the wasabi and I don't know what he thought it was, but he picked up the whole serving they give you and tried to put it in his mouth. I was able to stop him, but he looked so pissed that I did. I gave him a very small amount less than you would put on a piece o f sushi and when he ate it the he made to funniest face. Then he asked for water because it was so hot. Thankfully he listened to me about the whole almost tablespoon of wasabi he was going to eat or tonight would have been a long night.

Has anyone else had a kid try something they regretted?

  • hahahaha, reminds me of that part in Cars2 where Mater thinks its pistachio ice cream :P I'm glad your son didn't eat the whole thing but i'm sure it was kinda funny at the time. my kids do that sometimes, they really do like hot salsa or chili but then its TOO hot and they get pissed at us like "why'd you let me eat that!" :P

  • What better way to learn, so long as it's not something that's going to truly hurt them?

My 4 year old son kept going after those peppers that Papa John's puts in their pizzas, even though I told him that it was hot and he wouldn't like it. I got tired of telling him time after time and the last time we ordered pizza, when he grabbed it out of the box, I just said he would be sorry. He didn't even bite a piece off, just bit into it and the lesson was learned. He ran up to the bathroom for water and when he came back down, I had a glass of milk waiting for him and a little sympathy, with a side of "I told you so." He hasn't touched them since.

  • My oldest son age 10 doesn't eat a lot of hot stuff, but he insisted on trying a volcano taco from Taco Bell. He ate about half of it before he dropped it and says," i can't take anymore, I need some milk." Ha ha ha, it was so funny.

  • My DD is now reluctant when we try to put cheese into her mouth. We like several different types of spicy cheese. We had her try a bite of chipotle gouda at the store the other night and the face was hysterical. She calls it dirty cheese b/c it has spots in it. She tells us that she doesn't like dirty cheese. The faces she makes are just hysterical when she tries a new spicy food.

  • When my daughter was 3 she grabbed some horseradish on her finger and stuck it in her mouth before I could stop her. Needless to say, milk was a must that night. She cried so hard and I felt so bad.
