3 Bumps

IYO, what is the best shoe for working out/exercising?

I am a bigger girl and want support. I was using Nike Shox - but one of the "shox" broke! Should I buy another pair or do you prefer another pair?

  • Long, long time ago :) when I used to go to the gym with my sis I preferred New Balance Shoes. Nike are great shoes I would stick with the brand you feel most comfortable.

  • I like Asics and Nike (specifically Nike Air Pegasus). I'm a runner though and do about 50 miles a week. I always need to replace my shoes every 4 months.

  • I use Champion from payless. They have rounded spots on ball of the foot and at the heel. They are there to help create instability to force you to use your core more. They are comfortable and I am on my 2nd pair. I workout in my home though.

  • It depends on your foot shape. Is it long and narrow? or more like a square/rectangle? I have narrow feet. My preferred brand is Etonics, but they're nearly impossible to find, unless I want to spend $200 on a pair of shoes. So I go with Asics, the parent brand. My husband has wider feet than I do and HE swears up one side and down the other that Saucony are the best out there. I'm not impressed with them.

If you have one in your area, look for a specialty running shoe store. They will measure you feet and help you find the right brand/size for you. From there you can take that information and go to Target, Walmart, Big 5, or some other less expensive store and get yourself a decent shoe.

  • Nike, Adidas, Asics, NB, Saconey (sp?)... all good names... stay away from Champion, Sketchers, or any other fashion sneaker... they will cause more harm then good!! (I say this as a sports medicine professional!!)

  • I agree with Rosehawk. Go to a specialty store and get fitted. What works for one of us may not work for you.
I have wide feet, and I'm a runner. I have collapsing arches when I stand, but when I run, the pressure goes to the lateral part of my foot. I like Brooks brand shoes, in general. I am getting some Saucony Progrid Ride 4s when I get my tax return.
