Members of the general assembly.being drug tested

With the business of making laws, with potentially requiring welfare recipients be drug tested, do you believe legislation face random drug testing too (that rules set should include everyone, and not just one group of people)?

  • Yeah, it should be. I mean, it's public sector. Don't other public sector jobs require drug screening? At least as a pre-requisite of getting a job? The same rules should apply to them.

  • Couponluv,
I don't know enough if they (legislation) do already. But, this was brought up in the Ruckus group talk show today.

  • As always one of their "perks" is to be exempt. Should they be under all the laws we are? Absolutely. Wil they ever be? Not until they are completely removed and those laws going back, well fairly close to the bebinning would have to be erradicated and everything started over again. Their powers of which laws and exemptions they are allowed to pass would have to be written in and frankly that isn;t going to happen

Some, but not all, do. When I was a municipal employee, the ones who worked with heavy equipment in the field (like the ones who repaired sewer lines or changed street lights) were subject to random testing every month. The people who worked in the office were only subject to testing if their supervisor thought they were impaired and they were told to go take one (and refusing would mean giving up your job). The testing if you seemed impaired applied to the field crews, too, but it was guaranteed at least 3 or 4 of them would be tested monthly anyway. In the 5 years I was there, one of my job duties was filling out the paperwork to fax over to the clinic where they did the test. I sent at least 3 a month for random, but only ever sent 2 administrative tests that entire time.

  • I think they definitely should. I think they should as a prerequisite to running for office. Let us know if you're on anything before we go voting anyone in, and CERTAINLY before making decisions for us!
