Moving and flying with toddlers?

We have 4 kids, 3 who live with us full time (our oldest lives with her mom during the school year). Our toddlers are 1, 3, and 4. We are leaving Japan soon (military) and heading back to the US. The trip will be about 24 hours. Plus there's all the packing and unpacking when we move. So, I was hoping to get some ideas to help ease the move and travel for the kids. I got a book at the library about moving with kids, but I wanted to get some ideas from other parents to use with the ideas in the book.

  • My mom was a single parent in the Air Force and moved with 3 of us several times overseas. She still talks about how many compliments she got from flight attendants about our behavior. One of her tricks: buy small gifts for the kids, toys, fave snack, ect and wrap them. When the kids are being good give them a little gift. Make regular trips to the bathroom so they can stretch their legs. Have gummy bears or suckers ready for take off and landing for the ear popping. I travel regularly with my now 3yo, the preparations are crazy but it makes the traveling easy. AS far as packing and unpacking" my mom would have a suitcase packed for each of us to hold us over til we got into our new place, anything she did want packed by the movers was put in the bathroom/bathtub. Then she made sure every box was meticulously labled. You may want to have child care for the kids for packing, contin...

  • it's hard for them to understand what's happeneing and your going to be really stressed. But make it fun, tell them when they come home you will have make all their toys magically disappered. When your unpacking let them unpack their stuff, it'll be like Christmas! Get your bedroom set up first, before you do the kitchen or livingroom, you'll be so gratful at the end of the day that your bed is ready and waiting for you. I wish you happy travles and amazing adventures!
