Coffee

First I will say that what I did is my fault and now I have to fix the problem. I have a daughter that has difficulty getting out of bed sometimes so she can catch the bus and what not, anyways she was crying about how tired she is and I told her a few weeks ago that she could have a little bit of coffee, well now she wants coffee all the time and I told her that I can't allow her to drink it because of health concerns. If she's at all like me the coffee will tear up her stomach and make her shaky,it does me so I don't drink it. So now I'm having trouble stopping what I started and don't know the correct way of helping her. My husband had to hide the coffee and my daughter was looking around the house for it. I found out that when they have money they go to mcdonalds and buy coffee when they are out and about with friends.

  • How old is he? I'm sure if it made her stomach hurt she would bring it up.

  • I may get flamed for this but I think it's fine. One cup a day isn't going to hurt them and there are even some health benefits to coffee. You can pick up a can of the half caffeine and see how that goes over but, really, I wouldn't worry about it.

My girls have been drinking coffee since they were teens with no adverse affects.

  • Where my sister and brother live there are 3 coffee shops within walking distance of the middle school and high school. It is a walking town and no one gets driven by bus. You can see all the coffee shops loaded with kids after school drinking all kinds of coffee.

  • I got hooked on coffee when I was 14, too. I wouldn't make such a big deal out of it, like it's some major forbidden thing. Just tell her not to go crazy with it, or drink half-caff. Personally, I think it's a lot healthier than kids who drink a bunch of soda or energy drinks.

  • Have you shown her pics of what coffee drinkers teeth look like when they're older? That was enough for me to never want any! (of course I also steer clear of colas/teas for that reason)

  • I know a lot of kids that age who drink coffee... but mostly it's because they think it's cool. Personally, I HATED the taste of coffee until I was like 20... so I don't get kids who like it.

I'm sure having something like a mocha wouldn't be too bad... half coffee and half hot chocolate, but only one a day.
