  • Benadryl might be making her cough. It actually dries the secretions, so it can actually make the situation worse.  Whooping Cough is actually not as common as those commercials and videos make it seem.  Yes, it can happen, but chances are it won't.   For the moment, take her into bathroom and steam it up.   See if that will help  loosen the secretions back up.   It's not a bad thing for them to cough... it's the bodies way of getting the bad stuff out of the lungs.

  • Also, try putting some vapor rub on her feet bottoms and cover.

  • Also try a humidifier in her room for naps and bed time. It will help keep everything loose and flowing. Both my kids and my hubby and myself are just now getting over a cold. Bad cough, runny stuffy nose. I dont know about my son because he is 6 months and cant tell me but I know my throat bugged me to the point that my ears were buggin me. I'm assuming it was the same for him because he has been rubbing and pulling at his ears for 2 weeks now. I took him to the doc to make sure he didnt have an ear infection because of it. I hope she feels better soon.

  • My 18 month old had a runny nose, which we've all had and when I took her to the dr they discovered she had an ear infection as well - no fever, no pulling at her ears. I would go ahead and take her to the dr to rule out any other possibilities.
