I tried to cook brown rice in milk. Why wont the rice soften?

I cooked the rice for over an hour and only softened a litte.

  • Brown rice takes longer and more liquid to soften. I have to put double or triple the water in mine to soften. And it does not soften like white rice does. Brown rice is an aquired taste.

  • Unpeeled rice or brown rice takes longer to cook. The coat is what makes it longer to cook but at the same time the coat is where the nutrients are.
    Soak the rice in a large pan for 30 minutes before cooking it. And It could take about 40 minutes for the rice to be ready. Keep simmering gently if needed.
