Blood Tests

I am getting my heart checked out and they did some blood work. I got a letter in the mail with doctor notes telling me what the result of each test meant. Anyway one said high inflammation test and we will discuss this and it was underlined. What could this possibly mean?

  • Well, first you should know it's not a test that specifically diagnoses a disease, per se. It lets you and your provider know that there is inflammation somewhere in your body. A high CRP can be an indicator of heart disease, or infection. It can also be high if you are very overweight or pregnant.

Your doctor will sit with you and discuss your results and various plans of action. He'll likely want to re-run the test in a couple of weeks to see if it is resolving itself. In the meantime, he may do a bit more blood work to rule out specific infections and he may do a couple of more focused blood tests regarding coronary function.

Don't panic :) I've had this happen to me a time or two before as well.

  • The best way to calm yourself is to remember that, had your doctor been terribly concerned, you would be in hospital by now.
