Do i go through our doctor, or try this assessment clinic?

We are having some concerns with my almost 4 year old daughter with behavioral issues and other things. I have been doing research and think it may be something like sensory processing disorder or something along those lines. So many things have some of the same symptoms. Should i go thorugh our pediatrician office for a referral to a specialist for the appropriate testing?
Or there is a counseling and assessment clinig that offers testing (i think if i am reading things right). They base it on your income and number of dependants you have. They are at the college.
So i am wandering which my best option will be.

  • If you have medical Insurance then I would go through the Pediatrician & have them refer you to a specialist. Why pay out of pocket for the same service?

  • Try the special clinic. I'm wary of pediatricians doing such specialized testing. Most don't have the extra education to determine the proper results.

  • My sons doc doesn't really asses to much, they have you fill out these basic forms. Our school district will test to put him in a special program, some therapies are offered if they think he needs it. We are also bringing my son to a speech therapist for an evaluation, which comes out of our insurance. A specialist sounds like a good way to go.
