The boss said i was right and the attorney does not like it

We have this case in our office that is extremely large and very confusing. It os over property mineral rights. Anyways the case is already up to 12 files.
This attorney called and wanted to see when something was filed. They didnt know about when or anything, So i scanned through what was entered onthe computeer and what was written on each folder as to what was in it. I told his office that didnt see anything that looks like what they are asking for but that I would suggest he send one of his workers to look at the entire case since it is so large and they know what they are looking for to make sure. I am not an attorney and out boss tells us that we are here to file the paperwork and that is it. So we are not familiar with what many of these documents are. She said that was exactly what i should have told him.
That they are the attorneys representing there clients and they know what they are looking for they should come verify for themselves if they think it has been filed.
And i was very polite and professional when i told him, but he is mad cause he says that he will have to come look himself. Well if you dont think YOUR WORKERS will know what to look for , that is your problem for not hiring people that can do the work you need done.
What would you have told him?

  • I'm a paralegal managing a law firm, been in this business for almost a decade. And I agree with you. The clients are paying him good money for his expertise and nothing should be left for chance. One of his paralegals should be over there reviewing those documents. You were right. Attorneys can be real a$$holes when they don't get their way immediately, but I am sure you already know that. ; )

  • You followed your boss' instructions and did it politely. You did a preliminary search which was more tha you were required to do.

He is in the wrong. Just tell him when he arrives that you are sorry that you could not have been more help and go about your work.
