Tony Bennett calls for the legalization of drugs

Bennett used the opportunity to ask that the U.S. government re-evaluate its stance on drugs, using Amsterdam as an example of a successful policy.

"First it was Michael Jackson, then Amy Winehouse, now the magnificent Whitney Houston," he began. "I'd like every person in this room to campaign to legalize drugs

Do you thin leaglizing drugs wuld save the lives of people like Houston and Jackson?
Do you think that is a good enough reason to leagalize drugs?

  • seriously? legalizing drugs would not keep people from becoming addicted to them, nor would it cause them not to purchase/get them in the first place. where do these ideas come from???

  • If she was on Rx meds then legalizing street drugs wouldn't have saved her life. If they were Rx meds prescribed to her then they WERE legal and she died anyhow. How about using this as a teachable moment to remind our kids that even when you think people have it all it's not too much for them to lose everything over drug addiction.

What does Tony Bennett have going on that he needed air time to make such a ridiculous claim?

  • QM, he has a 'Duets 2' coming out/in stores, that's what. Guess he figured to get free publicity for sells. Answer by dullscissors

Sad that this is the first thing that comes to mind (celebs saying something stupid that is sure to get attention when they have a project or film coming out soon).  I guess that's just a reminder for all of us to know that he is still alive and considers himself relevant.

  • Did he mean all drugs or just pot? If he means just pot, well some states are legalizing it already for medical purposes. Using the deaths of those celebrities actually hurts his pov, since they were on a lot harder drugs & we still don't know for sure what killed Whitney yet. We can make assumptions, but nothing is official yet.
