1 Bump

I love my crockpot but

I always cook in it on the weekends. That was i am there and can stir it if i need to or add water if needed.
But i was considering putting something in it while at work but i am just not sure.
I leave the house at 7 and dont get home till around 6. I am just worried if it gets low on liquid or needs stirred .
Anyone ever put somethingin it and just go?

  • Yes, that's perfect. Just cook on the low setting that requires 10-12 of cook time.

  • I'm Jewish and I use my crock pot for Saturdays meals because we can't cook on Shabbath. So I just put the crock pot on Friday afternoon and leave it until Saturday for lunch. Just make sure your crock pot automatically switches to warm after it finishes cooking, I think all of them do. I also do add a little bit more liquid and I cover it with aluminum foil under the cover.

  • Not all crockpots switch over to warm. I've only had an issue once when I was trying to make a soup, it got to thick, and burnt a bit on the one side. Other then that I've never had an issue. Just put it on warm and put a little bit more water then needed and you'll be fine MOST of the time. I don't work, but I'm SAHM that homeschools so I put the crockpot on days I'm gone out of the house because of schooling, field trips, co-ops, etc. It happens to be about twice a week and I've only have had something go wrong once!

Also NEWER crockpots don't get as hot as the older ones. So if you are super worried go get a new one. It doesn't have to be a pricey one, but it will cook at a lower temp as the older models.

  • I have an old crockpot that only has 2 settings, low and high. I've done a simple recipe take a chicken cut into 1/8ths and place it in the crockpot. Take a jar of your favorite salsa and dump it in on top of the chicken. Put it on low and when you come home dinner is done. I just add about 1 cup of minute rice so it sucks up some of the liquid and it makes really good rice. You can also do this with a simple roast.

That is not true. In fact it is just the opposite. The newer crockpots get hotter because there was a concern with the older ones not bringing food up to a safe temperature fast enough to stop the growth of bacteria.
